Good Bro's Plumbing
Blanchard owned · the whole Oklahoma City metro

Oklahoma City has two waters.
We find out which one is yours.

Water softeners, whole-home filtration and reverse osmosis drinking water, fitted by plumbers. $2,699 installed, the same price on city water or a well. And when something bursts at two in the morning, the same number answers.

What the city publishes

Two

different source waters

Oklahoma City’s own plan describes the Hefner supply, serving the north and northwest, as “generally hard”, and the Draper supply, serving the south, west and east, as “much softer”. One utility, one bill, two very different glasses of water.

The city publishes no hardness figure at all, which is why we test at your sink rather than quote you a number off a map.

Read what is actually in Oklahoma water

Why this matters

You already know something is off with your water

Almost nobody calls us because they read a water quality report. They call because of one of these four things.

Spots on everything

Glasses come out of the dishwasher cloudy. Shower doors film over a day after you clean them. That is dissolved calcium left behind when hard water dries.

Skin and hair feel wrong

Soap does not rinse properly in hard water, so it stays on your skin. Dry, itchy skin and flat hair are the most common things people describe when they call.

Your water heater is dying early

Scale settles on the element and insulates it, so the heater burns more to do less. It is the single most expensive thing hard water does to a house, and we replace the casualties.

It tastes like a pool

Oklahoma City finishes its water with chloramine. It lasts longer in the pipe than free chlorine, which is the point of it, and it is also harder to get back out.

Our systems

Built for the water you actually have

City water and a well are different problems. A 1,500 square foot house and a 4,000 square foot house are different problems. We size the system to the house and the test, not to a price list.

Standard Whole-Home Softener + Filtration

48,000 grains. Soft water and chlorine filtration in one tank.

Handles the two problems almost every home around here has at once: hard water that scales your pipes and water heater, and chlorine that makes water taste like a swimming pool and dries out skin and hair. One tank, one valve.

Dual Tank — Well Water

Built for iron, sulfur and that rotten-egg smell.

Well water is a different problem from city water. This system pairs a softening tank with a Katalox Light tank to pull out iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide — the cause of the smell, the orange staining and the metallic taste. Two ProValves, one per tank.

How it works

Four steps, and the first two cost nothing

We would rather tell you that you do not need a system than sell you the wrong one. That is a strange sales pitch, and it is also why people send us their neighbors.

  1. 1

We test your water, at your sink

On site, about fifteen minutes, and you watch it happen. No emailing you a PDF a week later.

  2. 2

We tell you what it means

Hardness, chloramine, iron, sulfur, whatever is there - in plain terms, with what it is doing to your plumbing and what happens if you leave it.

  3. 3

    We size the right system

Based on the test, the size of the household and where the equipment can physically go. Not on what we would most like to sell.

  4. 4

We fit it, and we are the plumbers

If the pipework needs work to take the system, that is the same crew and the same visit rather than a second trade and a second appointment.

Why this market is different

Nobody can tell you how hard your water is from a map.

The city's own conservation plan puts it plainly: “Oklahoma City relies on water from two sources, the North Canadian River supply and the southeastern Oklahoma supply.” Those two waters are not alike, and which one reaches your house depends on which treatment plant is feeding your side of town that day.

Oklahoma City does not publish a grains-per-gallon figure. It asks people to phone its water quality line. Every confident number you will find online for this city traces back to a company selling softeners, and they do not agree with each other.

Outside the mains it changes again. Most of the metro sits over the Garber-Wellington aquifer, where USGS has measured naturally occurring arsenic at up to 232 micrograms per liter against a drinking water limit of 10, along with uranium, selenium and nitrate. Public supply wells are monitored and treated. USGS points out that shallow domestic wells are not.

So we test. It takes fifteen minutes, it costs nothing, and it is the only figure that describes your house.

Real installs, in real Oklahoma homes

Every photo here is one of our own jobs. Notice how tidy the pipework is. That matters more than people expect the day somebody has to service it.

Questions

The things people ask us

Anything we have not covered, just call. There is no phone tree.

How hard is the water in Oklahoma City?

There is no single answer, and anybody who gives you one is guessing. The city runs on two completely different source waters: its own 2017 conservation plan calls the Hefner supply, which serves the north and northwest, “generally hard and high in organic matter”, and the Draper supply, which serves the south, west and east, “much softer”. Oklahoma City does not publish a grains-per-gallon figure at all - it asks residents to phone its water quality line. So we test at your sink. It takes about fifteen minutes and it is the only number that describes your house.

What does a whole-home system cost?

$2,699, installed, and the same price whether you are on city water or a well. That is unusual - a well build normally costs more - and it means nobody gets a surprise once the truck is in the driveway. Financing is available at 0% for up to 24 months. Reverse osmosis and the larger builds are quoted after the water test, because what you need depends on what the test says.

Is the price really the same on well water?

Yes. Same system price on city water and on a well. Wells do bring their own questions - iron, sulfur, and on the Garber-Wellington aquifer under central Oklahoma, the arsenic and uranium USGS has documented - and the test is what tells us whether you need treatment beyond a softener. But the system price does not change because of your water source.

Do I need a softener, a filter, or both?

They solve different problems. A softener takes out the calcium and magnesium that cause scale, spotting and dry skin. Carbon filtration takes out chlorine and taste. Oklahoma City finishes its water with chloramine rather than free chlorine, which hangs around longer in the pipe by design and takes more carbon contact to remove - so if your water tastes of the pool, that is what you are tasting. Most of our whole-home systems do both jobs in one tank.

You are a plumber. Why should I buy water treatment from you?

Because the crew that fits the system is the crew that does the plumbing. A water company sends an installer; if something is wrong with the pipework they find it, they stop, and you call a plumber. We are already the plumber. It also means we will tell you when the answer is not a water system - a failing water heater sometimes just needs replacing.

Do you really answer the phone at night?

Our own site has said 24 hours a day since the day it went up, and that has not changed. Burst pipe, no water, sewage backing up - call.
